Apple Tree

These photographs capture remnants of an ancient apple tree and its life support system. The first photograph was made quickly because the crew was working fast and almost done when I arrived. So I set up my camera in just a few minutes and took the shot quickly. I was trying to capture the continuum between the crane and the tree, as well as the three arborists in a seeming epic battle with the tree. The severed limb being lowered determined the exact timing of the shot, but I missed focus — just a little in front of the tree. I was able to come back the next day and get more shots using a medium format camera focusing on details of the various support structures, which I thought appeared like new growth.
